There are many styles of hearing aids. The type and degree of hearing loss, power requirements, options, cost factors, and cosmetic concerns are some of the factors that impact the style that you select. Your audiologist will discuss these factors with you and help you find the best style for your needs.

RITE = Receiver In The Ear

  • This style combines superb cosmetics with the improved acoustics which come from an open fit device. The mini-processor sits snugly behind your ear. A thin wire connects the processor to a speaker that rests securely in your ear canal.

BTE = Behind The Ear

  • These aids come in various sizes and circuit strengths. The processor rests behind the ear. Plastic tubing connects the processor to a custom earmold that delivers the sound to your ear. Sometimes, these aids can be fit with a thin plastic tube that is more inconspicuous.

ITE = In The Ear
ITC = In The Canal
CIC = Complete In the Canal

  • These aids are also named by their placement/size in the ear.
  • All hearing aids worn in the ear are custom-designed to fit each individual's ear. There are various sizes of the in the ear hearing aid, which are distinguished by their power output.
